Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has amazed most people on Twitter because of his short speech at a conference.

He told the audience that he did not have much to say.

Gachagua’s speech lasted for 40 seconds, unlike his other speeches which usually last for about 10 minutes.

“When Kenya is peaceful, business is uninterrupted and Kenyans are busy, I don’t have much to say,” said Gachagua in reference to the recent opposition protests that saw businesses affected.

The DP was speaking on Tuesday during the official opening ceremony of the social protection conference, 2023 at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete.

The objective of the conference presided by President Ruto was to chart ways towards inclusion and expansion of social protection for all Kenyans.

It will provide an opportunity for the sector to advance the social protection agenda to ensure increased coverage and access, including strengthening coverage and adequacy of social protection in the country.

Addressing a social protection conference in Nairobi, Ruto said that beneficiaries of social protection programmes will be getting their money before public servants earn their salaries.

He added that new changes will take effect from June 1.

"I have given instructions that from June 1, before public servants earn their salaries, cash transfer money will be paid. It is the right and moral thing to do," he said.

"If we do not take care of the vulnerable, we will be judged very harshly."

The President regretted that beneficiaries of social protection programmes have been getting their money late, sometimes upto seven months after they are due.
